Job Title: Educator / Education Field Hand
Reports to: Education Manager

Crossroads Farm is an Education Center and a 5-acre diversified NOFA certified market organic farm that employs sustainable and some bio-dynamic principals. You will be an active member of the education team, maintaining all gardens and fields assigned to education including those dedicated to the Flower CSA, as well as engaging with education program participants, volunteers, and farm visitors of all ages. Employment Classification: Temporary, Full-Time, Non- Exempt; Mid-March through mid- November.
Role and Responsibilities

Tend to gardens and fields dedicated to the education program. Activities include creating a crop plan with Education Manager, seeding, potting up, hardening off, transplanting, hand - weeding, irrigation, pest and disease management, hoeing, and harvesting.

Manage, as a collaborative effort with the Operations staff, the Flower CSA plan and program from seed to harvest, including the administration of the program, maintenance of supplies and inventory, and the design and creation of flower bouquets. Work with Farm Store staff to coordinate flower bouquets for non-CSA members.

Collaborate with the Education Team to design, implement and teach farm-based, experiential educational programs using biodynamic techniques when feasible for children and students of all ages and abilities while promoting environmental stewardship and sustainable practices. Prepare tools and assist with set-up and break-down of these programs. Write up program reports. Programs may be both on and off-site (neighboring schools and hospital garden settings).

Educate program participants about the farm, its history and mission. Educate participants about environmental conservation, wildlife, natural resources, sustainability, farming and agriculture.

Maintain greenhouse and hoop house space designated for Education and Flower CSA needs.

Lead volunteers in any of the above areas.

Maintain NOFA logs and record-keeping requirements.

Support social media efforts on behalf of the Education Team; Contribute to occasional blog posts.

Flexible hours that address the shifting demands of Ed programs and the needs of the assigned gardens and fields as well as the availability of other education team members. Assist the Operations Team as availability allows and needs present themselves.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
College student or graduate with education experience. Flower and vegetable gardening experience in home, school or urban settings required. Strong desire to learn organic or sustainable vegetable production, experience is a plus. Must be self-motivated and have a solid work ethic. Must be able to take direction, work on a team, as well as problem-solve independently or ask questions of available staff. Must be able to work in inclement weather unless it is severe. Must be able to use a computer for record keeping and use the Farm’s technology platforms to execute responsibilities including Microsoft Outlook/Office and Google. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Skills: Outdoor education experience, handyperson skills such as carpentry, and experience with greenhouse growing including plant propagation is a plus. Valid Driver’s License and a Car preferred.
Compensation: $20 - $25 / hour commensurate with experience.

Position Title: Farm Apprentice

Location: Crossroads Farm, Malverne, NY

Are you passionate about sustainable agriculture and eager to spend your summer working on a vibrant community farm? We are looking for enthusiastic summer apprentices to join our team and assist with all aspects of small-scale organic vegetable production.
​
Apprentices will gain hands-on experience in:
Planting, weeding, and mulching.
Harvesting and post-harvest handling.
General farm maintenance and seasonal tasks.
This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy outdoor physical work and are curious to learn the ins and outs of vegetable farming. Prior experience in farming or gardening is a plus but not required.

Schedule:
Duration: April-October (flexible based on availability)
Days/Hours: Flexible schedule to be discussed during the hiring process.

Job Requirements:
