Crossroads Farm is also supplying butternut squash, fennel and winter radishes. D’Angelo said that in April mixed greens would be harvested, which leads to strawberries in June and tomatoes in July, then eggplant and peppers.
D’Angelo emphasized that this partnership represents a significant milestone for Crossroads, which has experienced substantial growth in the past two years. He also pointed out that expanding the partnership with the sisters to grow other long-season crops is part of their long-term vision
"LIJ has recently teamed up with Crossroads Farm at Grossmann’s, in Malverne, in a farm-to-hospital partnership. Each week, the farm delivers 100 to 300 pounds of fresh, seasonal produce to the hospital for patients’ meals."
"There are 75 types of fruits and vegetables grown at the century-old farm, everything from acorn squash to zucchini. The farm is just a mile away from the hospital, making this truly farm to table."
Crossroads Farms at Grossmann’s has a long tradition that’s been shared by generations of folks from throughout Nassau County and beyond. Since 1895, it’s been a go-to for produce, plants and related agricultural products. Owned and cultivated for more than 100 years by the Grossmann family, it was purchased by Nassau County through the Nassau Land Trust to preserve the acreage as an open farm space. It’s one of the closest farms to New York City.
